At the Co-operators head office in Guelph, architectural fence systems are used as a landscape design tool rather than a purely functional boundary. The site’s outdoor spaces were planned as extensions of the workplace – supporting wellness, social connection, and everyday activity. GSP Group carefully integrated fence systems into their landscape plans, defining and enhancing the environment while maintaining a connection to the broader campus.
Privacy panels enclose an outdoor patio, establishing a private landscape amenity area. Instead of relying on solid walls, vertical screening elements establish a sense of enclosure while allowing light and air to pass through. Omega Unik is a complete privacy fence system designed and engineered to withstand wind loads. Moderated wind and exposure improves comfort and encourages employees to spend time outdoors throughout the workday.
The amenity space isn’t the only communal outdoor area to enjoy. A sleek basketball court is surrounded by an Omega Architectural fence system, offering a place for co-workers to connect and get active. The transparent, linear form of the fence provides ball containment and safety while preserving long sightlines across the campus. Rather than a fenced-off utility zone, the basketball court reads as an intentional landscape feature. It is visually connected to surrounding paths, plantings, and gathering areas.
The Co-operators’ commitment to wellness was a key design driver for this state-of-the-art, zero-carbon facility.
